The foundation was incorporated in 2008 by photo artist Eglė Mėlinauskienė. Currently Eglė is the president of the Foundation. The foundation also operates with the help of a number of volunteers. Eglė has coped with this illness herself and thus knows that this is a too great a burden for a child.
We are cooperating with the Paediatric Onco-haematology departments of Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių klinikos and Lithuanian Health Sciences Hospital Kauno klinikos, and Rehabilitation Department Saulutė of the Children’s Hospital in Druskininkai by enhancing the micro-climate, by purchasing missing equipment, and by organising and financing onco-psychology training for hospital staff.
We are purchasing non-compensated medicines, cover the expenses for non-compensated tests, pay for the children’s treatment abroad, provide nursing care items (such as plasters, diapers, wet-wipes, shampoos, oils, etc.) for the children.
We organise therapeutic and creative activities for the children and their parents in hospitals, organise events, meetings, thematic events, make the children’s dreams come true, help their parents and guardians receive qualified specialist support, and necessary information on treatment and rehabilitation possibilities and therapy.
We are promoting the society’s tolerance towards children with cancer and their families by fostering the tradition of helping those in need in Lithuania, we also organise public campaigns. As of 2009 the Foundation has granted support which exceeded EUR 667 thousand.
